#RPG MAKER PARALLAX BACKGROUNDS PROBLEM WINDOW HOW TO#
This first tutorial blog will cover how to start blocking out a design from a sketch using either binary or dirty tools and how to get a good outlining technique. The examples in all of these tutorials will be made using Adobe Photoshop CS6, although they can be transferred into any digital graphics program. The next four blogs will consist of write ups that contain step by step tutorials on how to do various pixel techniques, many of which were covered in the previous Pixel Techniques blogs. Now if Play is pressed on the Timeline, the animation will play. This can be done in the Timeline panel under each frame. Before playing the animation, it is important to set the frame rate, or how fast the frames will play. This movement process is referred to as Nudge or Nudging in Photoshop Create another Frame on the Timeline after completing this action and repeat the process twice more so there are four frames in the Timeline. Only shift it up approximately 2 pixels at a time. Currently on Frame 2, with the “Head” layer selected, tapping the Up key on the keyboard a couple of times will shift the layer up by a couple of pixels.

In this case, the “Head” layer is selected first. Step Five: Firstly, the idle motion is created by moving the separated layers at different intervals and possibly speeds. Currently only Frame 1 exists so select the New Frame button which will create Frame 2. This is the panel that contains the frames and options that can be used to create animations in Photoshop. Make sure the Timeline panel is open in the Viewfinder by selecting Window > Timeline. This tutorial will be covering how to achieve a simple idle movement. Step Four: Now that the layers are separated, it is time to add some light animation/movement to this sprite. (Figure 1) An important thing to note is that if the separate parts of the sprite have already been separated or created with animation already in mind, then the merge and separate tutorial will not apply. For this example, the non-isometric sprite will have the face, head, torso, tail and front limbs separated. Now we will separate the vital parts on the sprite. If the correct tools are used in this method, it is an easy task.

Step One: This method is a process of combination and then careful separation of layers. This tutorial again, is created using Adobe Photoshop CS6. Continuing to use the sprite from the last tutorials, we now have a sprite with a separate outline layer and colour layer that has also been shaded. There are various methods that can be used to complete this task, although for the purpose of this tutorial, a simple one will be shown. This section of the tutorial will focus on a method that can add some light animation to a pixel art sprite. For this tutorial 3 layers will be chosen the static background, a layer containing several middle ground background items that moves at a moderate speed and finally the fastest moving foreground layer. Step One: To create a parallax background, first the amount of layers that will make up the background has to be chosen. Parallax scrolling is generally a staple in 2D games, an infamous example being Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island.

Firstly regular 2D pixel background creation will be covered to show the concept of parallax background creation and finally the concept of HD Index Painting will be covered.Ī parallax background or parallax scrolling refers to a background in a video game that consists of many layers that are placed under or over one another, and move at different speeds when the in game/area camera scrolls horizontally due to player/character movement. This tutorial section will cover some more skilled concept s to do with background generation and creation.
